Gays can live freely in Spain. the Spanish are liberal, but as in many countries you still find people who are less open minded. A specially some small villages are very catholic and the people still have difficulties with gay and lesbians. Don't think holiday resorts like Sitges and Torremolinos are the same as small villages in the mountains.
