Gay Info Spain: February 2012

The Center for Sociological Research (CIS) has conducted a study in Spain to learn the number of young people between 15 and 29 who consider themselves gay, bisexual or transgender. The study results show that nearly 6% of youth are LGBT, representing a figure of about 540,000 people.

The study has also been reported that the LGBT community ”has felt any social exclusion or experienced a physical violence,” revealing that 38.9% of Spanish youngsters have witnessed an act of discrimination towards gays.

However, Antonio Poveda, president of the FELGTB, stated that 81.7% of young people respect sexual minorities, considering that the youth ”is much more open to sexual diversity” than other groups of the society.
