Demonstration against gay marriage in Madrid

31-12-07 | In the Spanish capital Madrid Sunday hundreds of thousands of Spaniards have argued for traditional family values and against the

opening of marriage for same-sex couples.

The demonstration was organized by the Catholic Church and the pope spoke too the crowd via a live video link. Pope Benedict XVI told the demonstrators in Spanish that "a marriage is always a commitment between a man and a woman."

On March 9, Spain votes, and the Government of the Socialist Zapatero is ahead in the polls. Zapatero has ensured that on July 4, 2005 the so-called gaymarriage was introduced in Spain.

During the Franco dictatorship Spain was one of the conservatiefste countries of Europe. Over the past 30 years, it is transformed into one of the most liberal countries.
